MANGENJANG.COM - The intelligence agency of the Kepulauan Riau (Kepri) province in Indonesia has reported human rights activist and Batam Pastor, Chrisanctus Paschalis Saturnus (Romo Paschal), to the Kepri Regional Police on Monday (7/2/2023).

The report was made by the Deputy Head of the Kepri Intelligence Agency, Bambang Prianggodo, who claimed that they were harmed by a letter that Romo Paschal had distributed to several government agencies in Kepri.

According to Ade Darmawan, the legal counsel for Bambang Prianggodo, Romo Paschal, who is also the Chairman of the Commission for Justice, Peace, and Pastoral Migrants and Sojourners (KKPPMP), was reported for spreading false news, defamation, and slander.

Bambang was accused of being involved with a mafia syndicate that illegally sent Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to Malaysia.

Ade explained that the letter containing defamation was distributed by Romo Paschal to 12 institutions, and Bambang learned about it through one of those institutions.

"Finally, our client learned about the letter that was distributed to various institutions," said Ade when contacted by phone on Friday (10/2/2023).

Initially, they gave a warning to Romo Paschal, but it was ignored.

"However, he ignored the warning that we sent. Finally, we decided to report RP to the police," Ade explained.

Ade stated that Romo Paschal was reported to the Kepri Regional Police on Monday for spreading false news and slander under articles 310 and 311.

When giving his statement, Bambang was questioned by the Kepri Regional Police Criminal Investigation Directorate for 10 hours.

Regarding the allegations against Bambang Prianggodo, Ade said that they suffered a great deal of harm and pressure.

"He (Bambang) is already under psychological and psychological pressure. And he is threatened because this concerns his personal and official position as the Deputy Head of the Kepri Intelligence Agency," Ade said firmly.

"We hand it over to the investigators. We are confident that the Kepri Regional Police is professional, as stated by the Police Chief. We also hope that RP will cooperate in the future," added Ade.

Meanwhile, Bambang Prianggodo, the Deputy Head of the Kepri Intelligence Agency, admitted that he felt greatly harmed by this incident.

"I also don't know what the purpose of all this is. What RP did was wrong and very harmful to me," explained Bambang.

"As BIN, we are still one with the people, and if there is any unlawful behavior, we will deal with it through the law. No one is immune to the law. So we always prioritize the law," said Bambang.

Romo Paschal's camp remained tight-lipped. Unfortunately, as of now, Romo Paschal has not been able to be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Ilyas, Romo Paschal's legal counsel, did not say much when asked about the report against his client.

"I can't say much because this is the investigator's jurisdiction. What is clear is that we will follow the legal process going forward and we will leave everything to the investigators," Ilyas said on Friday.***
